Job description

Help us make Swiss small businesses even more successful! Sounds like a big vision? That's exactly what drives us every day.

At bexio, we live by the philosophy that top-tier, efficient, and smart software solutions must be accessible and affordable for every SME. With this mission, we are now the leading provider of cloud-based business software in Switzerland.

Our expansion is moving fast: over 100,000 satisfied customers, more than 7,000 fiduciary partners, and a strong team of over 150 motivated employees speak for themselves. To continue writing this success story, we are looking for great people to join us. And that’s is where you come in!

As Head of Development, you will take on a pivotal leadership role within our CTO organization. You will be responsible for the organizational and technological strength and execution capabilities of our development department, ensuring that our teams, competencies, structures, and capacities perfectly align with our current and future needs.

Job requirements

Your impact with us

  • Lead and develop our agile development organization, including the Tech Leads, while establishing clear expectations, responsibilities, and decision-making processes.

  • Take ownership of the development team’s delivery capabilities. You will manage capacities, resources, and dependencies across teams and actively remove blockers during implementation.

  • Future-proof our teams by ensuring that structures, skills, and capacities are geared toward both current demands and future requirements (including Agentic Software Development).

  • Define software development standards and technology priorities in close alignment with the Architecture and Delivery teams.

  • Collaborate closely with Product and Support, particularly regarding prioritization, delivery coordination, production-critical issues, and customer-facing incidents.

  • Drive engineering excellence alongside the Head of Quality & Tooling to ensure that engineering standards, quality frameworks, tooling, agile methodologies, and overarching development processes are effectively applied throughout the organization.

What you bring to the table

  • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Business Informatics (or a comparable qualification), coupled with 8 to 10 years of overall experience in the IT industry. You have a proven track record of being part of a team that successfully launched software products (preferably in a SaaS environment).

  • At least 3 years of experience in a software development leadership position (preferably managing remote and distributed teams). This includes hands-on experience in recruiting, coaching, performance management, talent development, and purposefully building future capabilities within an engineering organization.

  • Proven practical knowledge of software development concepts (e.g., DDD & TDD), tools (e.g., Confluence, Jira, Bitbucket, Datadog), frameworks, and technologies (e.g., PHP, Symfony, MySQL, GCP, Kubernetes). Experience with Agentic Tools (e.g., Claude Code) is highly preferred.

  • Hands-on experience with agentic and agile development processes, effort estimation, and handling production-critical issues. You pair this with a strong sense of ownership, high reliability, and the ability to set clear priorities and make confident decisions even under pressure.

  • Proven experience working across Architecture, Product Management, Quality, Technology Leadership, and Support. You possess the analytical skills to structure complex technical and organizational matters and clearly translate them for various audiences.

  • Excellent English skills and ideally fluent German for seamless collaboration with internal stakeholders, teams, and our nearshoring colleagues.

What you can look forward to

  • Hybrid model and working hours that fit your life.

  • 5 weeks of holiday plus optional unpaid leave.

  • Yoga, bootcamps, massages and legendary BBQs.

  • 16 weeks of maternity and 3 weeks of paternity leave.

  • bexio covers 63% of your pension contributions – for a higher net salary.
